Matatirtha-Chandragiri- Chitlang hiking is a very popular among the tourists for a day hike which takes you through dense forest enriched with wild and exotic flora and caters picturesque views of Kathmandu valley along with some superb views of mountain ranges and then ends in a beautiful traditional village of Chitlang. According to Hindu Mythology, it is believed that Satidevi’s forehead fell off her body in this place when Mahadev, God Shiva carried her dead body on his back. In addition to, it is also believed that great king Prithvi Narayan Shah got triumph over Kathmandu because of the blessing of Ichhayashwor Mahadev, one of the incarnation of God Shiva or Mahadev, the god of Gods.You can accomplish this hiking in around 5-6hours. You also can enjoy rough road drive uphill from Godam Chaur near Thankot for around 3 hours to reach the top of Chandragiri hill.
The major highlight of Chandragiri is Cable Car. The hill station has been connected by cable car which lasts for around 9 minute to cover 2.5 km long route. And upon your arrival at the top of the hill station one can enjoy the absolute view Kathmandu valley along with breathtaking mountain range to the north.
